Make money without having products in stock

If you run a web shop you probably have the problem that now and then have the problem some products are unavailable or out of stock.

You can comfort your customers by back ordering the product or offering them equivalent product. Unfortunately this will not enhance the overall conversion rate of your website simply because you can’t offer your customer exactly where he is looking for (at that time).
That’s a pity: no conversion, no revenue, no profit.

What if you had a creative solution that would offer your customer a good alternative and would give you some nice extra revenue without having it in stock or available?

Find the most authoritative websites on the web

Always wanted to know which websites in your country have the most authority on the internet?

This clever trick will show it instantly. The ingredients: A web browser.
Open your web browser and point it to Google. Choose a country of the Google website you want to check the authority for - e.g. Google.nl for the Netherlands or Google.co.uk to check the websites with the most authority in the United Kingdom.

Now, to find the websites with the most authority all you have to do is search for “www”. So, do a search for “www” in Google and voila, Google will come up with the results. The resulting websites are the ones with the most authority for that specific country. Maximum coolex!

Why would these results come up for the “www” search query?

How hot is valentine’s day?

No, it’s not about the weather nor the rating of your partner. Valentine’s day from a marketing point of view is also hot, right? Turning more and more into a commercial event, valentine’s day is hot stuff. In the days before valentine’s day you better have your mind set on a original gift for your beloved one(s). I got my love this original gift: Chocolate Mii’s! Representing my girlfriend and me in Nintendo’s Wii, Mii form. Cute huh? (although I got the chocolate color wrong ;-))

Anyway, now i’ve got you all excited for valentine’s day let’s do a little research how popular valentine’s day is, in comparison to e.g. easter, thanksgiving, Christmas or the superbowl. Ok, I skipped the latter because it felt in the same “interest” time frame. How hot are these (commercial) days in comparison to each other? Have a look:

Hello Joost! Holla back!

Just a quick post as reply on Joost de Valk’s latest post “get noticed“. The idea is something I practice already since I got hooked on statistics (/me <3 GA).

In your statistics you see referrals. You get curious in what context your website is mentioned so you visit the referral. If you are lucky it's a nice post or article mentioning your website. So what do you do? You leave them a "thank you" comment.

I'm convinced it works the other way around (like Joost is saying): if you link to a website, they will notice you as referral. And with the same attitude they will visit your website and leave a comment. Ok, a comment is not always necessary, but at least you get more traffic.
So, get noticed as referral and visit your referrals!

Google Analytics beta e-commerce tracking

I wanted to do this a lot earlier. Back then I stumbled upon some programming issues. My customer said back then that he did not need it anyway (silly him!), so I never finished the job.

Last month Google Analytics changed the tracking code. With this change of tracking, I received a lot of questions regarding the e-commerce tracking of web shops. When you changed your old tracking code with the new one, e-commerce tracking stopped working. Therefor I revisited the original e-commerce tracking contribution so it’s compatible with the new Google Analytics code.

With the contribution you can track every successful transaction made from your store within Google Analytics. With the trackable transactions you can see from what referral the transaction came from. This is highly recommended when you have an affiliate deal, link deal on other (partner) websites or advertise on Google AdWords or Yahoo!. Now you can calculate the true ROI and invest more accurate to achieve higher leads.

Download the (updated) Google Analytics beta e-commerce tracking contribution v2.1.1

Q: Is it necessary to update from Urchin to the new Beta code?
A: To be ahead of mandatory updates, yes. Google announced that the old Analytics Urchin tracking would be supported for at least 12 months.

Q: There is no button “e-commerce” in my Analytics menu
A: E-commerce tracking is not enabled for your website. You can enable this in the profile settings of “Main Website Profile Information”. Enable “Yes, an E-Commerce Site” to track your transactions.

Update: This contribution can only keep track of one item. Multiple items won’t work, yet! I’m working on an update asap.
